Mitochondria are all the small powerhouses within each cell of your body. Without these, you basically would die in an instant. Mitochondria are an ancient type bacteria that at some point in the evolution, entered our bodies and developed a symbiosis.

The cells in your brain have a significantly higher concentration of mitochondria due to your brain’s extreme energy requirements. Your eyes especially are packed with these powerhouses since the processes that go into processing vision are both critical for survival and immensely energy-intensive.
